Centering Indigenous Voices

Restorative Justice and restorative practices are gaining increasing traction in North America and globally. Restorative Justice is not a new concept, even though the language and concepts may be new for many of us.

It is important to know that Restorative Justice has been practiced for centuries by Indigenous people across the globe.

Acknowledgment and appreciation go to these global ancestors, and in particular, to the First Nations people of North America and New Zealand who have been incorporating restorative practices into their communities for centuries, and have been helping newcomers to the work understand and practice building community restoratively.

Restorative Justice comes from all around the world, including but not limited to: New Zealand, Fiji, Canada, Hawai'i, Brazil, Peru, Morocco, South Africa, First Nations peoples in the United States, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Liberia, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, and East Timor.
