Several years ago, a group of staff in Student Life recognized the need for a foundation level training that could provide students with the facilitation skills they need to be successful in various roles they play on campus and within our units. In response, the Student Life Facilitation Training Committee developed a 16-hour training curriculum designed to:
Prepare participants to facilitate dialogues, meetings, and workshops involving two or more individuals;
Be available to students, staff, and volunteers of Student Life;
Supplement unit-specific trainings;
Maximize divisional resources; and
Be module-based and repeatable. Three pilot trainings were conducted last academic year and we’re now ready to offer the training more broadly.
What Does this Training Entail?
The training consists of four modules (intrapersonal awareness, interpersonal communication, group dynamics, and skill integration) that build on each other and create a foundation-level facilitation skillset. This unique "train-the-trainer" event will also have a bonus module to provide you with an opportunity to debrief the training and consider how you will facilitate it in the future.
Will it Cost Me Anything?
No! The training is free for Student Life staff. All we ask is that you will be willing to serve as a trainer for future training sessions offered to students.
If you have additional questions about the training, please contact Carrie Landrum in the Office of Student Conflict Resolution at 734-936-6308.
